Become a Nate’s Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue Center. Our volunteers are the heart of our mission. Whether you’re walking dogs, caring for cats and kittens, helping at events, or pitching in behind the scenes, your time and talents make a life-changing difference for the animals in our care. Together, we can give every animal the love, support, and second chance they deserve.

Volunteers are an essential part of our team, and each role comes with its own training, scheduling, and physical requirements to ensure you’re set up for success. Please take a moment to review the available opportunities and steps to get started.

Step 3: Register for Orientation

All volunteers must attend Orientation before signing up for shifts. Follow the link in your email or check the Volunteer Calendar to register. New dates are added monthly, so keep an eye out if none are currently available.

Canine Care team/dog walking heart

Open to ages 16 & up

Help our dogs stretch their legs! With dog walking opportunities twice a day, every day, our Canine Care Team provides dogs valuable time outside of their kennels for much-needed exercise and enrichment. These daily walks help improve each dog’s leash skills, behavior, and socialization, making them more confident and ready for their forever homes.

Kitty Care Team heart

Open to ages 16 & up

Volunteers are needed to care for and maintain cat enclosures, including cleaning, feeding, socializing and playing, among other responsibilities. Orientation and training are required for this position.

Transporting heart

Open to ages 25 & up (with valid driver’s license)

On occasion, our animals will need transportation to and from appointments or other shelters. If you have a valid driver’s license and can comfortably drive the Nate’s Van, this opportunity may be a good fit for you. Animal handling knowledge is also required for transporters.

Special event volunteering heart

Open to ages 16 & up

Throughout the year, we participate in various special events and fundraising opportunities to increase exposure for Nate’s and our animals. Volunteers for this role should enjoy speaking and interacting with the public.

pardon our dust: coming soon!

Open paws training program heart

Open to ages 8 & up

Open Paw is a reward-based training system designed specifically for animal shelters. The program consists of four levels and is entirely volunteer-driven, focusing on teaching dogs and cats behaviors that help them get (and stay) adopted. Open Paw is the foundation for all of our interactions with our animals, and all of our volunteers, staff and even potential adopters participate in the program. Children as young as 8 years old can volunteer for this program.
