At Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue Center, every adoption is a celebration – a second chance, a fresh start, and the beginning og something special. For Maggie, a rescue dog adopted back in 2017, her journey didn’t just change her own life; it has changed the lives of countless others.
Maggie’s adopter, George, had no idea at the time just how much of an impact she would have. Back then, she was just a pup named Becky, waiting in her kennel for the right person to walk through the doors and pick her. That person turned out to be George, and their story was just the beginning.
Years later, George suffered a traumatic injury that turned his whole world upside down. During his recovery, therapy dogs were brought in to visit him at the hospital, offering comofrt and compionship during one of the hardest times in his life. That experience sparked an idea, one that would give Maggie a purpose beyond what anyone had imagined.
Determined to pay forward the comfort he received, George and Maggie trained and became a certified therapy team with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs nearly two years ago. Since then, Maggie has made it her mission to bring love and healing to those in need. She regularly visits Manatee Memorial Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, where she played a pivotal role in shaping their therapy dog program. In fact, Maggie was the very first therapy dog at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, and because of her incredible impact, the hospital has since added four more therapy dogs to the program.
From a shelter kennel at Nate’s to bringing love and healing to so many, Maggie is proof that rescue dogs can do amazing things.
