Founded in 2008 by a small group of volunteers working from their garages, Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue is now rebranding as Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue Center to better reflect the new size of the shelter and broader scope of animal welfare services. The addition of the word “Center” underscores a variety of new buildings being added to the property on Lorraine Road in Lakewood Ranch, including an inviting Welcome and Adoption Center; Event & Community Center; Intake Center; and Behavior and Training Center.
The rebranding comes as the nonprofit enters the final phase of its transformative $16 million “Journey Home” capital campaign to fund much-needed new construction and campus improvements that will double its capacity for dogs and cats and provide more services to the community. Like the new construction, the fundraising effort is nearing the final stretch with $12 million raised to date and $4 million remaining. All donations to the campaign are being matched by a generous donor, doubling the impact of each contribution.
Progress to Date
Since launching the “Journey Home” campaign in 2019, Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue Center has made significant strides. The first phase involved raising the ground 2 ft. to prevent flooding; adding a bone-shaped dog pool; a walking trail; and play yards. The next phases introduced the 5,000-sq.-ft. Intake Center, designed to house and treat sick and special needs animals at the shelter; the 4,300-sq.-ft. Behavior and Training Center that is now open and serving as a resource for current pet owners in the community; fenced dog play areas; a Meet & Greet Pavilion for families to spend time with potential new pets; 10 new dog cottages, doubling the shelter’s life-saving mission.
The final phase includes the completion of the new 23,000-sq-ft. Welcome and Adoption Center that will serve as the central hub for families finding their forever pets. Scheduled to open in early 2025, the new facility will feature:
- Childrens’ Education Room, an interactive space with hands-on learning activities;
- An all-new Cat Wing offering spacious, enriched living spaces for felines;
Access to care Veterinary Clinic for the community; - Maternity Ward, specifically designed for nursing moms and their babies;
- Event & Community Center with outdoor patio;
- Cafe for drinks and treats
The enhancements are designed to allow Nate’s to take in more animals, provide faster, on-site medical care, and serve the community with essential, affordable veterinary services.
